Hello my name is Peta Smart.
I am the creator of Wazza Bears. I live in Adelaide, South Australia.
I am a single mother of 4, 2 girls and 2 boys, the name "Wazza Bears" originated from Warren who is the father of my children.
All my life I have enjoyed creating and making things BUT never found anything that I just loved, I used to worked in a creative job as a Hairdresser and a nail tech, up to a few years ago when I had my 2nd daughter. That's when I took up bear making. A mum from my daughter's calisthenic club was making a bear and I just had to make one myself. So that's were it all started July 2001. I wasn't happy with other peoples' design so I decided to design my own in August 2001. I gave them away to friends and family. In 2002 I decided to sell my bears. The response was amazing. To this day I sell my bears on ebay, my website and bearpile. I have won a few awards but I don't enter very many competitions. I do attend shows now and then when time and expenses allow me. I love doing shows and meeting collectors and seeing the smiles on people's faces.
My bears have inspired me to go back to school 2008. I attend Uni SA full time in Bach Visual Arts. I am loving the course. The course has opened my mind to many ideas of where my journey as a soft sculptor can take me. I am inspired to design new different bears and also explore wildlife. At the moment I am researching wire framed, puppetry, my pets , and exotic wildlife. My major goal is to be commissioned by the Museum to create one of their animals. Along with soft sculpture, I paint and I am studying contemporary sculpture, glass and ceramics. This is an exciting new venture for me. And it feels so right.
So please enjoy and please revisit.
